Control the Compleo eBOX with an app: free with Monta or eCarUp
With the Monta or eCarUp app, you can conveniently control your Compleo eBOX from your smartphone – free of charge, for the eBOX smart as well as the eBOX professional. You start and stop charging sessions via the app, see your consumption and, if needed, give family, guests or employees access to the wallbox. Both apps are available in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. In this article, we show how the two differ and how to connect your eBOX in just a few minutes.
Key points at a glance
- Monta and eCarUp are free for home charging and available for Android and iPhone.
- The eBOX smart and eBOX professional connect to the app via OCPP – without eConfig, directly in the web interface.
- All Compleo eBOXes purchased from Ampion or e-leiwand have been updated to at least firmware 2.6 and are therefore ready for both apps.

What an app adds to your wallbox
Without an app, the eBOX starts charging as soon as you plug in the car. That is convenient, but you cannot see how much electricity has flowed, and anyone with a charging cable can charge. With an app, you are in control of your wallbox:
- Start and stop charging – even when you are on the go.
- Keep an eye on consumption – kWh charged per session, also ideal for billing a company car.
- Control access – only you charge, or you give family, guests or employees access in a targeted way, via the app or – with the eBOX professional – additionally via RFID card.
- Bill charging to third parties – for example in a multi-unit building, a holiday flat or a business.
Monta or eCarUp: the comparison
Both apps speak OCPP, the open standard between wallbox and backend. This means they work equally well with the eBOX smart and the eBOX professional. The differences lie in their focus:
| Monta | eCarUp | |
|---|---|---|
| Origin | Denmark | Switzerland |
| Cost at home | free | free (Free version) |
| Strength | home charging, smart charging based on electricity price | sharing and billing, e.g. in multi-unit buildings |
| Statistics | kWh, costs, CO₂ in the app | live status and consumption; detailed statistics in Premium |
| Sharing with others | teams for family, friends, guests | user management, prices, opening hours |
| Station setup | in the app | in the web portal admin.ecarup.com |
| Available for | Android and iPhone | Android and iPhone |
Rule of thumb: if you mainly charge yourself at home, Monta is the simpler choice. If you want to share the eBOX with others and bill for charging, eCarUp plays to its strengths.
What you need
- A Compleo eBOX smart or eBOX professional with an internet connection via Wi-Fi or LAN.
- Access to the eBOX web interface with the user
adminand the PUK from the back of the operating instructions. - The serial number of your eBOX from the type plate – it serves as the chargebox ID.
- The Monta or eCarUp app and a free account.
We explain step by step how to access the web interface and connect the eBOX to your network via Wi-Fi or LAN in Setting up the Compleo eBOX without an app.
Tip: For a backend, LAN is the most stable connection. With Wi-Fi, check beforehand that reception at the installation location is good.
Connecting the eBOX to Monta
The following steps are based on the configuration example that Compleo itself has published for Monta in its eBOX FAQ. Compleo tested Monta in the free Basic plan with an eBOX smart. Instead of using the eConfig app, you enter the values here in the web interface – they are the same.
Preparation
- Install the free “Monta Charge” app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and create an account. There are no subscription costs for private individuals.
- Have the PUK of your eBOX ready – it is printed on the back of the operating instructions.
- Note the serial number. It is on the type plate on the far left in the upper third of the eBOX (format e.g.
LP00253A) – not on the eCLICK mounting plate.
Setup
- Note the technical settings: in the web interface under LDP1 → General, take a photo or note down the phases, charging current and phase imbalance detection. You will need these values again later.
- Reset if a backend was used before: if the eBOX was already connected to another backend, for example eCharge+ in the past, reset it to factory settings under System → Reset with “APP Reset”. Then re-enter the noted values under LDP1 → General.
- Establish an internet connection: connect the eBOX to your home network via Wi-Fi or LAN and check under Network → Status whether it is online.
-
Select backend mode: under ECU → ACCU, set the operation mode to
b2band the protocol toOCPP-generic. -
Set up the backend connection: under ECU → OCPP
- Endpoint URL:
wss://ocpp.monta.app - Chargebox ID: the serial number of your eBOX
- Endpoint URL:
- Add the wallbox in the app: in the Monta app, choose to add your own charging station, search for the chargebox ID or serial number and follow the instructions. Alternatively, you can do this on a computer via the Monta Hub at monta.com.
You can then start and stop charging via the app, see your charging history and give others access to your wallbox via teams.
Important: once connected, Monta takes over control of the charging station. Charging then takes place as you set it in the app. Clarify any questions about tariffs directly with Monta.
Tip: if you still have an older Android device on which the eConfig app runs, you can also enter the same values there via Bluetooth.
Connecting the eBOX to eCarUp
- Install the app: download “eCarUp” from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and create an account.
- Get your personal OCPP URL: log in to the web portal admin.ecarup.com, open Stations on the left and copy the URL in the OCPP tab. It is linked to your account.
-
Select backend mode: in the eBOX web interface under ECU → ACCU, set the operation mode to
b2band the protocol toOCPP-generic. - Enter the connection data: under ECU → OCPP, paste the copied URL as the endpoint URL and enter the eBOX serial number as the chargebox ID. Compleo also recommends entering the user name and password of your eCarUp account. Save with OK.
- Set up authorisation: under LDP1 → Authentication, enable authentication so that authorisation runs via the app.
- Set up the station: as soon as the eBOX communicates with eCarUp for the first time, it is automatically assigned to your account. In the web portal, you then define the location, users and – if you want to bill – prices.
eCarUp always recommends a test charge at the end. Incidentally, the same applies to Monta.
Charging via app in everyday life
- Start charging: plug in the car, select the wallbox in the app and start the charging session. With the eBOX professional, you can also use an RFID card without a smartphone.
- Stop charging: stop in the app or simply unplug the cable from the car.
- Check consumption: every charging session is saved with kWh and duration.
- Let others charge: add people in the app – they then start charging with their own smartphone. On the eBOX smart, the app thus replaces the RFID card; on the eBOX professional, you can also assign cards. You decide who may charge.
Important: if you bill the kWh charged to different users, a wallbox compliant with Austrian and German calibration law (Eichrecht) is mandatory in Austria as well as in Germany: the eBOX professional EKA. In Austria, the same applies if a service provider bills the charging electricity to a third party – for example, reimbursement by your employer of the kWh charged at home. In Germany, MID is usually sufficient for company car reimbursement; some employers or service providers nevertheless require Eichrecht compliance. We explain which version is suitable when in Compleo eBOX versions compared.
What does it cost?
- Monta: the app is free for home charging, with no subscription. If you make the wallbox available to others for a fee, Monta retains a transaction fee in the free plan.
- eCarUp: the Free version costs nothing and covers prices, opening hours, live status and simple user management. If you want detailed statistics, reports or maintenance functions, you can switch to Premium. A commission is charged for credit card payments.
As of: October 2026. Conditions may change – you can find current prices directly from Monta and eCarUp.
Conclusion
With Monta or eCarUp, you get more out of your Compleo eBOX free of charge: charging via app, consumption at a glance and full control over who charges. Setup takes a few minutes in the web interface – you do not need a separate manufacturer app. For your own car at home, Monta is the quickest solution; for sharing and billing, eCarUp.
Frequently asked questions
Does this work with the eBOX smart and the eBOX professional?
Yes. Both versions support OCPP and are set up in the same way. Compleo itself tested Monta and eCarUp with an eBOX smart. With the eBOX smart, authorisation runs via the app: anyone registered as a user in the app starts charging via smartphone – essentially the app instead of an RFID card. The eBOX professional can also read RFID cards.
Do I need the eConfig app for this?
No. You make all settings in the eBOX web interface.
Can I switch between Monta and eCarUp?
Yes. Simply enter the other provider's data under ECU → OCPP. The eBOX is always connected to exactly one backend.
The eBOX does not appear in the app.
Check under Network → Status whether the eBOX is online, and compare the endpoint URL and chargebox ID character by character. After saving, it may take a few minutes for the connection to be established. Some backends restart the eBOX once after the first connection – this is normal.
I need help with the setup.
A personal setup appointment can be booked as an option. Send us your request with the serial number of your eBOX to service@ampion.at.
