Load management made easy – with the Compleo eBOX smart & eBOX professional
More and more electric cars are charging at home or at work – and energy demand is rising accordingly. With smart load management, the available power can be distributed optimally without fuses tripping or an expensive grid connection upgrade being required. The Compleo eBOX smart and eBOX professional already come with a lot built in for this.
Key points at a glance
- Load management prevents the connected load from being exceeded.
- Static: fixed maximum value. Dynamic: adjustment to the current consumption in the building.
- The eBOX has integrated load management – with no licence fees, connected via Modbus TCP/IP.
What is load management?
Load management ensures that electricity consumption in the building or charging cluster never exceeds the available connected load. This way no fuses trip, the grid connection is not overloaded and the available power is used efficiently.
A basic distinction is made between static and dynamic load management.
Static load management
With static load management, a fixed maximum value is set that the charging infrastructure as a whole must not exceed – regardless of how much electricity is currently being consumed in the building.
This makes particular sense when several wallboxes are installed at one site and there is a defined connected load for the charging group, for example:
- in company car parks,
- in underground garages of multi-unit buildings,
- for fleet solutions.
The system distributes the available power among the connected vehicles – so every car charges without the connection being overloaded.
Dynamic load management
With dynamic load management, the wallbox also takes the current electricity consumption in the building into account and continuously adjusts the charging power.
If the cooker, heat pump or washing machine is running, the wallbox automatically reduces its power. When the other consumers draw less electricity, it increases again. This way charging adapts to the available connection – without any loss of convenience.
Integrated in the eBOX – no additional hardware
The Compleo eBOX smart and eBOX professional feature integrated dynamic load management:
- no external controller required
- no licence fees
- no additional hardware
All you need is a smart meter with Modbus TCP/IP at the building's grid connection, for example the Shelly Pro 3EM. The meter and eBOX are on the same network, and the eBOX automatically detects how much power is currently available in the house.
Setup via the web interface
You configure the settings directly in the wallbox's web interface:
- Establish a LAN connection to the wallbox.
- Open the web interface in your browser.
- Enter the smart meter and maximum values.
- Save.
The system then measures the current flow and regulates the charging power automatically. You can find detailed step-by-step instructions in Setting up the Compleo eBOX without an app.
Tip: The eBOX and smart meter need a static IP address or a fixed assignment in the router so that the connection is maintained after a restart.
Benefits at a glance
- Static and dynamic load management integrated
- No additional hardware required
- Control directly via the smart meter using Modbus TCP/IP
- Setup via the web interface
- Protection against overloading the building's grid connection
- Optimal use of the available grid capacity
- Suitable for single-family and multi-family homes, businesses and garage facilities
Conclusion
With the Compleo eBOX smart and eBOX professional, load management is set up quickly. Whether static or dynamic – the wallbox ensures that the available energy is used as efficiently as possible, without additional hardware or licence costs.
